Cast Iron Cleaning Paste
Notes
This paste will remove rust from a cast iron skillet.
Ingredients
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1 Tablespoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Mix baking soda and lemon juice to form a paste.
- Coat the cast iron skillet, covering all of the rust
- Let sit for 1 hour
- Brush paste off
- Wash with soap and water
- Rinse
- Use a hair dryer on the skillet until it is dry to prevent rusting
- To season the pan, spray with a thin layer of canola cooking spray
- Make sure it doesn’t drip or run when you tilt it
- Place an oven liner on the bottom shelf
- Place skillet upside down on the next rack up
- Cook at 450 degrees for one hour
- Turn off the heat and let the skillet cool in the oven
- If it’s sticky, there was too much oil. Cook it for another hour
